New list
Over homeleave number two:
*Got my hair cut. Woohoo! I have bangs and more layers and goodness. Don't even bother asking for a picture. Digital cameras hate me.
*Went shopping. Also got some free makeup. They have a store here called Ulta. They have all this girly stuff - makeup and hair stuff from just about every brand. It's fantastic.
*Signed up for my Educator's Discount at Barnes & Noble. Yeah, buddy. 20% off of resources used in the library or classroom. Maybe I'll lend those books out to students... yeah.
*Got application for a new passport. We're gonna travel.
*Tried to get PA driver's license. Went on the wrong day. Stupid DMV.
*Went to D.C. Michael's first time. Went to the Holocaust museum, Lincoln, World War II, Korea and Vietnam memorials. Ate some really good Thai food. That was heaven.
*Stayed at Mama Yancer's house. She wasn't even there. Which was too bad, it would have been nice to see her.
*Found a Gap Outlet in Gettysburg. Went haywire. Bought lots of stuff. Total cost for five shirts and two pairs of pants: $38. (No tax on clothes in PA: awesome.)
Homeleave was again wonderful. Grades are due tonight at midnight, which makes me want to cry a little. Mostly because some students refuse to turn things in on time and I don't want to give them bad grades. This is turning out to be impossible. Also, I'm sleepy. But life is good. I'm sure of it.

for a Canadian, i really love DC. it is one of the few places that i am okay being very quiet for quite long periods of time (at the memorials and the Holocaust museum). and i love the grandness--the honor, the dignity--in the marble and the engravings. and even though most are for war or soldiers i think the important thing is that they honor people and sacrifice. and i've decided i'm not a pacifist--too much of a label. i just value life over death. in any case, i'm glad you two got to go. i know there's lots to do and you hit really good ones, and you probably don't need recommendations and yet i find my fingers typing anyway that i also enjoyed the roosevelt memorial and arlington cemetary. i have yet to come close to the washington monument--always under construction.
This was the first time I was in D.C. without there being construction on the Washington monument. We didn't go in, but we got closer than I'd ever been. We decided that since we live close now, it wasn't important to see everything in one stop. So we'll go again and probably see Arlington and some more museums. The history one that we wanted to go to was closed, and we'll probably go back to the Holocaust, because even though we spent hours there we didn't see everything. And I love the art museums. And it's always nice to see the Hope Diamond. So yeah. Plenty still to see.
Sounds like you guys had a great homeleave. I am glad you guys got to DC. I just have to say that I love how you can see so much there for free!
I am going to Gatlinburg this weekend with your sister and Crystal. It should be great fun.
Thanks so much for your comment. Ang, that's already helped me a lot, knowing that you get me. I'll have to keep the spicy food one in mind, I haven't tried that. I'm sure Ben and Leslie wouldn't mind a good excuse to take me to Thai House. :)
I read last night that warm colors are supposed to help. I've really been enjoying being at the TLC lately, and it's painted in lots of warm colors, so I think maybe that makes sense. Just having sunny days makes a world of difference.
I'll pray for you too. I haven't lived in PA since my SAD started, so I don't know how much different it will be from Lincoln for you. I hope better, though!
Your list of what you do on homeleave always sounds so exciting to me - except for the shopping but i'm glad you got stuff - have you been wearing your hot jeans? I would love to live up in that area some time - there is so much to see and do. You guys are so close to all those tiny states with all the prettiness. see you at thanksgiving - can't wait to see your hair. Luvs
